2020 is not that far away and thoughts are turning to how we can continue to put preventing illness, protecting health and promoting wellbeing at the forefront of health and care professionals practice.  And what better way to encourage and support health and care professionals to do this than WeLearn #AllOurHealth ! We are really pleased to announce that WeCommunities and Public Health England are collaborating, for a third year, to use social media in order to bring health promotion, protection and prevention firmly into practice.

Public Health England’s All Our Health framework is a call to action to all health and care professionals to embed prevention within their day to day practice. The All Our Health educational materials, tools and resources that have been developed to help health and care professionals make huge impacts in preventing illness, protecting health and promoting wellbeing. Some of the key resources include:

The WeLearn #AllOurHealth project started in 2017 and set out to establish and deliver an interactive s-learning (learning through social media) programme to extend the reach of All Our Health. It aimed to mobilise the workforce by establishing an innovative learning network, supporting the sharing of information and professional development.

Platforms including Twitter, Tweetchats, Infographics, Prezi, Steller Stories, YouTube, Podcasts and Blogs have all been used to bring the All Our Health framework to life, encouraging both long term social media users and those new to the platforms to take part.

Last year, health and care professionals gave us overwhelmingly positive feedback on the content, platform and style of learning  and found the course to be engaging and useful both for their professional development and revalidation and to have an impact on practice:

“We have learnt a lot about the population which we nurse, live near and work with. We do have a responsibility to inform, protect and advise as health care professionals and AllOurHealth has given us ways to do this”

“I have further developed my awareness of prevention. I strongly believe primary care cannot function long-term by focussing on treatment rather than prevention as the resources are already too stretched. #WeLearnOutLoud was a fantastic flexible course in bite size chunks.”

“This enhanced my knowledge in general range of public health topics and gave me resources to share with undergraduate Child health nursing students. It worked well as a free to access learning platform. I would like to get more students on board as I really could see the impact on their knowledge, confidence and attitudes to promoting health”

“WeLearn AllOurHealth become very useful for me and my development of work. The only thing differently I would do is encourage more peers to take part in the WeLearn courses such as this one”

Insights work carried out by Public Health England has shown that what professionals want is brief trusted information to share with both the public and other professionals and, most importantly, we all have a professional requirement to help protect and support the public, communities and population. WeLearn #AllOurHealth is a brilliant opportunity to do this.
