#StudentsInCharge

Monday 1st December 2014 by @AgencyNurse

As we hurtle towards Christmas we felt that it was about time we had another Twitter Takeover .... only this time we are putting the Student Nurses in charge of @WeNurses! For five days over December we have five Student Nurses taking over the @WeNurses account, each bringing their own unique perspective and experiences to the account.

Here is a little bit about the student nurses who are going to be in charge:

Dorcas Lambert @dorcaselambert - I'm a married mum of two and a 3rd year Adult Nursing student at the University of Bradford. I'm also a Care Maker, Student Ambassador and Faculty Representative for the Faculty of Health Studies. Before embarking on my nursing degree I worked in various care settings including mental health, elderly and dementia care, and worked for 12 years with adults with learning disabilities.

Vishakha Abbi @Vishalicious - My name is Vishakha Abbi and I am a 3rd year learning disabilities branch student studying at the university of greenwich. I have a particular interest in the prevalence of learning disabilities amongst ethnic minority groups and looking into ways to make healthcare services more accessible and inclusive for these groups.

Chloe McCandlish @McCandlish - Chloe is a 4th year student Mental Health nurse at the University of Nottingham, doing the undergraduate Masters course due to qualify in June 2015. Being in final year means she currently has a 16000 word dissertation to write, in which she is exploring Borderline Personality Disorder and how to improve the care of women diagnosed with this. Chloe is a student representative on the new School Council which holds the executive team to account for decisions made. Chloe is also a peer mentor, helping to support first year students just starting their training.

Natasha McVey @XMcVey - Natasha is a fourth year student nurse, studying the adult branch at the University of Nottingham. Natasha is a peer mentor leader within the University helping run the peer mentor programme with the view that next year the scheme will be run entirely by students for students. She also has a great interest in barriers to challenging poor practice and the role that an organisations culture has to play in this, her dissertation is an exploration of these barriers and influencing factors. Natasha also has roles within the local training trust's student task force; that aims to bridge the gap between practice placements and University, working on student inductions and practice area improvements. Natasha will graduate in June 2015 and hopes to start her nursing career in the acute sector.

Gemma Knox @GeKnox - Hi! My name is Gemma & I'm currently studying Bsc hons in Adult Nursing at the University of Salford. I am currently a 2nd year student but will swiftly be arriving at 3rd and final year! I have curated the university account once in the past @nursingSUni and was quite nervous about it due to my severe lack of Twitter experience. With the help & support of @wlasinclair, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and gained so much from it. In my 'old life' before becoming a student I was a veterinary nurse for many years. With this experience I have brought with me a keen interest for trauma care and end of life care, the latter being my main interest for various reasons. I am a mum to Harrison (6) who has various educational needs that surround his hyperacusis and over sensitivity, and also mummy to Emily who is 4. I have been married to Adam for 5 years and we have a small collection of pets (3 cats, 2 dogs & fish) our biggest and youngest is Mac the Newfoundland puppy (12 months) and Zoe a rescue Shih Tzu who is 15 years with early onset kidney disease. Second year has been, and is still hard work and quite full on - so not much time for hobbies or anything extra-exciting to tell you about . . . any 'spare time' is spent with my family doing fun stuff together! I am still quite a novice when it comes to Twitter, but there's only one way to learn and what better support could I have with all of you lovely lot supporting @WeNurses. At the time of writing this Bio I was 48 hours away from my OSCE exam & when I get to spend the day Tweeting with you lovely lot (mid- Dec) I will be in my first few week of a Gastro placement.

Each #StudentInCharge will take charge of the @WeNurses account from 7am on their day until 6.59am the following day - here is who will be in charge when:

12th Dec Dorcas Lambert @dorcaselambert

13th Dec Vishakha Abbi @Vishalicious

14th Dec Chloe McCandlish @McCandlish

15th Dec Natasha McVey @XMcVey

16th Dec Gemma Knox @GeKnox

So we hope that you will join us in supporting them through being in charge ... we are really looking forward to reading and sharing their tweets over the 5 days :D
