#WeCareHomes - Wednesday 15th April 2020 8pm (GMT Standard Time) Care homes - A Unique nursing role

If you haven't joined in a tweet chat before it's very simple.    Here's a guide

 Chat Details

Hosted by WeNurses using #WeCareHomes

This chat is guest hosted by @louisebrady17 @PoppyLegion

This is the first in a series of Tweetchats aimed at care home nurses.  For those care home nurses not yet on Twitter please help them to discover the value by accessing the WeCommunities Care Homes TwitterKit HERE

Nursing home ‘nursing' is probably one of the most undervalued career paths in the nursing profession. NHS nurses are often unaware that nursing home work and care can provide excellent job satisfaction and robust life long career opportunities.

A unique nursing role.

Great nursing home care encompass everything from supported living where people with complex care histories are supported to live independently within a communal home environment, through to managing the holistic social and clinical needs of people with severe dementia, frailty and those requiring palliative and end of life care. Advanced nursing care is a prerequisite to keeping people safe and well, in a complex multi-faceted care environment.

The adult care sector workforce includes employment of 41,10001 Nursing and Midwifery Council registered nurses bound by the Code of Professional Standards of Practice (NMC, 2018). According to Care England, the registered nursing care home workforce is often overlooked, underappreciated and can face multiple challenges on a day to day basis. Recruitment, retention and professional development strategies are allcritical factors for those seeking a career in the Independent sector (Care England 2017).

Our nurses are at the frontline of health and social care provision today, caring for an increasing number of older people, with complex health and social care requirements: @wenurses want to find out:

1/ what are your current perceptions and experiences of having a career, as a registered nurse within a care home environment?

2/ What are the rewards and the challenges of working in a care home?

3/ Do you currently support undergraduate nurses with placement experience in your care home?

4/ Are there robust career pathways available to you and your staff?

5/ Is Professional development for nurses still focussed solely on the need to fulfil Care Quality Commission requirements?

6/ Describe how you are supporting the development of the nursing and care workforce?
