Hello and welcome to today's University of Hulls Group A #AllOurHealth tweetchat on Air Pollution Lets get started straight away with QUESTION 1 What information do you currently share with patients and families re air pollution ? https://t.co/jv7ThalzIO
@WeLearnOutLoud
04 March 2021 18:01
@VickyCoxon6 Let's take a deep breath :) #AllOurHealth
@stndemi
04 March 2021 18:03
@WeLearnOutLoud I haven't been on placement just yet, however I have been discussing it with family members and directing them to interactive maps to see what pollution is like in the area, and how not to do strenuous activity in high pollution areas! #AllOurHealth
@VickyCoxon6

@WeLearnOutLoud #Allourhealth
@WeLearnOutLoud
04 March 2021 18:04
@stndemi great - how did they take the advice do you think? #AllOurHealth
@stndemi
04 March 2021 18:05
@WeLearnOutLoud They were actually really surprised! They didn't think air pollution was a big issue in the UK, but I was also under the same impression until it came up in the modules! #AllOurHealth
@WeLearnOutLoud
04 March 2021 18:10
QUESTION 2 What are the barriers to sharing information about air pollution with patients and families? #AllOurHealth University of Hull Group A https://t.co/FVTca2fn3l
@Jobee4t
04 March 2021 18:10
@stndemi @WeLearnOutLoud I agree with this and also felt the same until I started this module #AllOurHealth
@VickyCoxon6
04 March 2021 18:12
@WeLearnOutLoud The way they live, some people find it hard to adapt to change, and maybe its convenient so change because short lived #Allourhealth
@Jobee4t
04 March 2021 18:13
@WeLearnOutLoud #AllOurHealth I think one of the barriers is lack of awareness and knowledge around this area, also people may feel the issue is too large for them to make a difference.

@stndemi
04 March 2021 18:15
@WeLearnOutLoud Language barrier would be one, if English isn't their first language they may struggle to understand what air pollution is and the harm it can cause if they live in a high pollution area. #AllOurHealth
@Vuyiswa72340752
04 March 2021 18:16
@WeLearnOutLoud I think not having enough time spent with patients, not knowing much about the topic #AllOurHealth
@Jobee4t
04 March 2021 18:16
@WeLearnOutLoud #AllOurHealth Another barrier may be others maybe not taking this seriously, as pollution is in the air it's not tangible for people to see.
@stndemi
04 March 2021 18:17
@VickyCoxon6 @WeLearnOutLoud They may be in a position where changing isn't as easy. Their only way to work could be driving, they may not be able to move to a lower risk area, they may have small children so not using the heating as much wouldn't be an option etc. #AllOurHealth
@WeLearnOutLoud
04 March 2021 18:17
RT @Jobee4t: @stndemi @WeLearnOutLoud I agree with this and also felt the same until I started this module #AllOurHealth
@WeLearnOutLoud
04 March 2021 18:18
@VickyCoxon6 changing where you live isn't an option for very many people is it, not in reality #AllOurHealth
@StudentNurseTil
04 March 2021 18:18
I found this image quite interesting. It's simple enough to understand the short-term and long-term effects of air pollution. #AllOurHealth https://t.co/nwLFMe1KCr

04 March 2021 18:20
QUESTION 3 What is the best approach to take when sharing information with patients and families re air pollution? #AllOurHealth University of Hull Group A https://t.co/os9pFfuaB0
@stndemi
04 March 2021 18:20
@VickyCoxon6 @WeLearnOutLoud I agree, and that’s just the lifestyle factors. Language barriers, communication barriers and physical things then come into it. I think for some people it’s a really difficult thing to change #AllOurHealth
@Jobee4t
04 March 2021 18:21
@WeLearnOutLoud @VickyCoxon6 #AllOurHealth No and neither is not living in poor housing conditions
@stndemi
04 March 2021 18:22
@Jobee4t @WeLearnOutLoud @VickyCoxon6 A particularly difficult thing to change for those in the most deprived areas too #AllOurHealth
@VickyCoxon6
04 March 2021 18:22
@WeLearnOutLoud #AllOurHealth
@stndemi
04 March 2021 18:23
@WeLearnOutLoud I don’t think many people are aware of the issue that air pollution is. We’d need to softly approach their lifestyle factors and support them through changes they could possibly make whilst remembering that isn’t an option for everyone #AllOurHealth

And finally ... When and where should information re air pollution be shared with patients and their families?? #AllOurHealth University of Hull Group A https://t.co/lrjnkc8oCk
@stndemi
04 March 2021 18:27
@WeLearnOutLoud Whenever possible and necessary. I live in a low air pollution area, so it’s not something that’s ever been discussed with me. For those we know live/work in those high pollution areas it’s vital they have the information to make informed choices. #AllOurHealth

@WeLearnOutLoud
04 March 2021 18:47
Our last #AllOurHealth chat with you Group B :( Let's chat with each other and explore each other's views, findings and ideas as we go through the chat questions :)
@StudentNurseMLC
04 March 2021 18:47
The information I share would be walk instead of driving, even the smallest of choices could help towards preventing even the tiniest of difference towards air pollution #AllOurHealth
@WaudbyClaire
04 March 2021 18:47
@WeLearnOutLoud Using the air pollution map to show the reality of how big it is to deliver the importance of why we need to help reduce it in all areas #Allourhealth
@NurseAdult
04 March 2021 18:47
@WeLearnOutLoud Nothing as yet as we have not been on placement. But in time I will share information if and when it is appropriate to do so. #AllOurHealth
@emma_student
04 March 2021 18:47
@WeLearnOutLoud Air pollution information has not been something that I have shared prior to this weeks information, More discussions re pollen levels etc I have started having discussions with colleagues, sharing the info I am learning with them #allourhealth
@Soph_H_0802
04 March 2021 18:48
@WeLearnOutLoud It's important to share the causes of air pollution in and outside of the home, as well as how to tackle problems associated with it #AllOurHealth
@2020Markham
04 March 2021 18:48
@WeLearnOutLoud I would share the air pollution map, this is an amazing tool to show people exactly how bad it can be! After I would then give advice such as walking instead of driving can make a huge impact on air pollution! #allourhealth
@StudentNurseTil
04 March 2021 18:49
@WeLearnOutLoud I am still not on placement yet so I haven't shared any information with any patients but I have been sharing information over twitter. I shared the air pollution forecast to my mum as she has asthma. #AllOurHealth
@a_nur17
04 March 2021 18:49
@WeLearnOutLoud As I haven't started placement yet I wasn't able to use the information about air pollution, but once I am in the hospital I will be telling my patients how relevant air pollution is for our environment. #AllOurHealth
@Jasmine50977999
04 March 2021 18:49
@WeLearnOutLoud That air pollution is a blinding killer as it is not seen and can easily be forgotten about. We need to play our part in reducing air pollution by walking/cycling/running. Also by keeping ourselves fit and healthy we can be as less risk of harm from air pollution #AllOurHealth
@CGadie
04 March 2021 18:49
@WeLearnOutLoud I haven’t started my placement yet..but I would promote walking & biking when possible, to prevent car engine pollution #AllOurHealth

@WeLearnOutLoud @emma_student @NurseAdult @WaudbyClaire @guitarlad25 @2020Markham @Soph_H_0802 @CGadie My mum finds it quite useful as she'll look on the website to check what it is like before going on long walks. #AllOurHealth

@WeLearnOutLoud @emma_student @NurseAdult @WaudbyClaire @guitarlad25 @Soph_H_0802 @StudentNurseTil @CGadie My family were very shocked to say the least, when I shared information with them about air pollution! #allourhealth
@Rebecca62473967
04 March 2021 18:52
@WeLearnOutLoud Air pollution hasn't been something I'd considered sharing before this week. Now I'll definitely offer advice to people I come into contact with #AllOurHealth
@2020Markham
04 March 2021 18:52
@Soph_H_0802 @WeLearnOutLoud I love being able to physically see it, it helps to understand it all on a deeper level. #allourhealth
@Soph_H_0802
04 March 2021 18:52
@WeLearnOutLoud @emma_student @NurseAdult @WaudbyClaire @guitarlad25 @2020Markham @StudentNurseTil @CGadie For me, people most try brushing off the issue, until you show them the extent of the issue using the infographs on the health matters page #allourhealth
@2020Markham
04 March 2021 18:53
@emma_student @WeLearnOutLoud @NurseAdult @WaudbyClaire @guitarlad25 @Soph_H_0802 @StudentNurseTil @CGadie how amazing is the radon map? #allourhealth

04 March 2021 18:53
@Soph_H_0802 @emma_student @NurseAdult @WaudbyClaire @guitarlad25 @2020Markham @StudentNurseTil @CGadie good to have the #allourhealth evidence to hand then
@StudentNurseMLC
04 March 2021 18:53
The air pollution map was very interesting being able to see what the level of air pollution is in each area, was surprised my area was a 2 which is low considering I live near a steel works #AllOurHealth
@NurseAdult
04 March 2021 18:53
@WeLearnOutLoud @emma_student @WaudbyClaire @guitarlad25 @2020Markham @Soph_H_0802 @StudentNurseTil @CGadie People are shocked about it. previous to this module I have only seen an episode of a documentary on television about it. There's not enough information out there in the public domain. #AllOurHealth
@StudentNurseTil
04 March 2021 18:53
@Rebecca62473967 @WeLearnOutLoud I was the same I hadn't even thought about it. #AllOurHealth
@emma_student
04 March 2021 18:53
I have already started making adjustments, with the products I use, opening windows when I cook, and my kids were not happy when I told them why we were not using the car today (starting young) #AllOurHealth

04 March 2021 18:53
@WeLearnOutLoud @Soph_H_0802 @emma_student @NurseAdult @WaudbyClaire @guitarlad25 @StudentNurseTil @CGadie most definitely ! #allourhealth
@Soph_H_0802
04 March 2021 18:54
@NurseAdult @WeLearnOutLoud @emma_student @WaudbyClaire @guitarlad25 @2020Markham @StudentNurseTil @CGadie It's like people will mention it once, change behaviour for a week or so, then forget all about it #allourhealth
@CuttingMoira
04 March 2021 18:55
@WeLearnOutLoud I have not had the chance to discuss air pollution with any patients, but thanks to this weeks content I now have a number of resources I can refer to in the future #AllOurHealth
@WeLearnOutLoud
04 March 2021 18:55
QUESTION 2 What are the barriers to sharing information about air pollution with patients and families? #AllOurHealth University of Hull Group B https://t.co/Ds0i4Sr7qa
@Gembopinx
04 March 2021 18:55
The annual mortality of human-made air pollution in the UK is roughly equivalent to between 28,000 and 36,000 deaths every year. This still shocks me!!! #Welearn #AllOurHealth #AirPollution ??
@Soph_H_0802
04 March 2021 18:56
@WeLearnOutLoud Sometimes it can be hard for people to understand the levels of air pollution we see, and feel there is nothing they can do as it's in the hands of large companies and the government, when this isn't the case #allourhealth
@WaudbyClaire
04 March 2021 18:56
@WeLearnOutLoud Not everybody has that 'willing to listen and learn' attitude so not all people will take it seriously #Allourhealth
@Rebecca62473967
04 March 2021 18:56
@WeLearnOutLoud I think it's something that most people don't really think about in their day to day lives. I know I didn't before this week. #AllOurHealth
@2020Markham
04 March 2021 18:57
@WeLearnOutLoud Some people just believe it will not affect them so they choose not to listen! Social media is great way to share information, however not everyone has access to this #allourhealth
@a_nur17
04 March 2021 18:57
@WeLearnOutLoud I think one of the top barriers to sharing information about air pollution would be how that individual reacts to it. As some people don’t care much about this cause however some do. I think that could be a barrier. #AllOurHealth
@Gembopinx
04 March 2021 18:57
@WeLearnOutLoud @emma_student @NurseAdult @WaudbyClaire @guitarlad25 @2020Markham @Soph_H_0802 @StudentNurseTil @CGadie People I share this information with about air pollution are genuinely shocked, there is not enough awareness about the issue at all! It would be good to see prime time tb adverts about air pollution #Welearn #AllOurhealth
@StudentNurseMLC
04 March 2021 18:57
Barriers might be People finding it hard to adapt so trying to encourage them might make the world of difference. Also having none of a slim amount of knowledge surrounding the subject #AllOurHealth
@MarieFitzgeral1
04 March 2021 18:57
Leading up to #CleanAirDay I pledge to read as much as possible about air pollution #AllOurHealth https://t.co/52Rul2Gv5t
@NurseAdult
04 March 2021 18:58
@WeLearnOutLoud We could advise them but like I have said before more education is needed about the situation. #AllOurHealth
@emma_student
04 March 2021 18:58
@WeLearnOutLoud Resistance, I have found that some people tend to not believe what they cannot see, just because we do not live in a cloud of smog doesn't mean its not in the air ?? #allourhealth
@CuttingMoira
04 March 2021 18:58
@WeLearnOutLoud It may not always be a feasible option for patients to reduce their car usage, due to distances they must travel for work/access healthcare services. Families also haveother commitments, such as school, meaning that the extra time it takes to walk is not possible #AllOurHealth
@Jasmine50977999
04 March 2021 18:58
@WeLearnOutLoud That air pollution is not spoken about enough, meaning people don't know anything about it. #AllOurHealth
@Soph_H_0802
04 March 2021 18:58
@a_nur17 @WeLearnOutLoud Even after showing people the information surrounding air pollution, some still almost don't believe it #allourhealth
@StudentNurseTil
04 March 2021 18:59
@WeLearnOutLoud People tend to shrug it off as if it is nothing. I think because they can't visually see it they don't care, unless it was the Great Smog of London in 1952. #AllOurHealth
@Gembopinx
04 March 2021 18:59
@WeLearnOutLoud A barrier could be lack of awareness around the matter and an unwillingness to make changes in their lifestyle to not add to the problem #Welearn #AllOurHealth
@StudentNurseMLC
04 March 2021 18:59
People can’t see it so wouldn’t think of how important it is to make a difference towards it. Can’t see it, doesn’t exist attitude #AllOurHealth
@VictoriaCredla1
04 March 2021 18:59
@WeLearnOutLoud The air pollution map is really helpful as a visual aid, I was surprised to see that my area was a 4 yesterday (I live in a small rural town) #allourhealth
@lillie_hampson
04 March 2021 19:00
Some of the barriers could be that people feel it does not effect them or that it is not their responsibility to change their actions because of that. #AllOurHealth
@emma_student
04 March 2021 19:00
@CuttingMoira @WeLearnOutLoud I have also found that some can take it personally and become defensive, I think that approach and a together we can make this better attitude can help ?? #allourhealth
@WaudbyClaire
04 March 2021 19:00
@WeLearnOutLoud @emma_student @NurseAdult @guitarlad25 @2020Markham @Soph_H_0802 @StudentNurseTil @CGadie Shocked about something so obvious. Myself included never thought about this topic until now #allourhealth

Hull has introduced cycle lanes and extended bus lane hours. I have noticed a lot of negativity, much due to disruption to drivers, is this a tactic to promote other forms of travel? What has been learnt from other countries that could help public engagement here? #AllOurHealth
@emma_student
04 March 2021 19:03
@StudentNurseMLC Indoor air pollution other than smoking, I never knew existed! #allourhealth
@CuttingMoira
04 March 2021 19:04
@emma_student @WeLearnOutLoud I agree. It could come across as very overwhelming for someone to be informed of the ways they should 'change' to make an impact. It will be important for us to take a sensitive approach to the topic, whilst still encouraging the patient to make small adjustments #AllOurHealth
@WeLearnOutLoud

@WeLearnOutLoud Air pollution isn't just bad smells and big plumes of smoke, so it's easy to just get used to the air you breathe every day whilst the damage is done over a long period of time. There's no immediate sense of danger to it despite it being as harmful as it is #AllOurHealth
@Soph_H_0802
04 March 2021 19:06
@StudentNurseTil @emma_student @StudentNurseMLC I remember an ad for something fairly recently on TV about it, talking about indoor air and how we have evolved to spend most of our time indoors #allourhealth

@WeLearnOutLoud I'd probably begin by just generally raising awareness of air pollution and its effects. I don't think bombarding patients with a lot of information is productive to them wanting to change lifestyle #AllOurHealth

@WeLearnOutLoud I believe the best approach would be to be friendly when sharing information to a patient or family. As nurses we should be using the 6 C’s when approaching someone as they may feel uncomfortable. #AllOurHealth

@StudentNurseTil
04 March 2021 19:08
@WeLearnOutLoud I believe that information should be shared now with our patients and families, as most of us on here haven't even been aware that indoor air pollution was a thing. Due to lockdown people could decrease their pollution. #AllOurHealth

@WeLearnOutLoud In terms of where information should be shared, I believe in any health care setting there should be posters. Healthcare professionals should make every contact count and share the information. #AllOurHealth

@WeLearnOutLoud Better labelling would help similar to the nutritional information labels, I have really struggled this week to know what to buy, having the right information is not enough, we need to know how to use it #allourhealth
@WaudbyClaire
04 March 2021 19:11
@WeLearnOutLoud Take an informative approach but focus on that individual - maybe identify their risks in comparison to their day to day lifestyle. Little changes such as walking to work instead of driving makes all the difference! #Allourhealth
@CuttingMoira
04 March 2021 19:12
@WeLearnOutLoud As seen with other lifestyle changes, we should start young by educating children in schools about the harms of air pollution and ways to improve. They will then take this information home and discuss it with families, and they will grow up with a positive attitude #AllOurHealth
@StudentNurseTil
04 March 2021 19:12
@WeLearnOutLoud Information could also be shared on different types of social media as that is where people spend most of their day. #AllOurHealth

Hello and welcome to today's University of Hulls Group C #AllOurHealth tweetchat on Air Pollution Lets get started straight away with QUESTION 1 What information do you currently share with patients and families re air pollution ? https://t.co/lmlr9btPXe
@stn_seg
04 March 2021 19:30
@WeLearnOutLoud I haven’t yet had the opportunity to go out on placement, however I have been discussing air pollution & sharing some of the infographics with friends and family. Most hadn’t considered air pollution an issue so were shocked when I shared the forecast map #AllOurHealth
@jen_student
04 March 2021 19:31
@WeLearnOutLoud I would share the air pollution map. This is a really user friendly and useful resource #AllOurHealth
@WeLearnOutLoud
04 March 2021 19:32
Let's go GROUP C!!! Respond to each others tweets, comments, ideas and learning. Be brave and use our last tweetchat to practice sharing and learning out loud, a skill you can take with you way beyond #AllOurHealth

@WeLearnOutLoud Make sure they are aware of the figures and aware of care exhausts and make people with asthma are aware which could really effect them #AllOurHealth
@vickile47947769
04 March 2021 19:32
@WeLearnOutLoud #Allourhealth hello. A t present I have not had the opportunity to share information with patients although I have been able to share info with family and friends and guiding them to look at the air pollution forecast in their area,
@MarieFitzgeral1
04 March 2021 19:32
@WeLearnOutLoud Currently no placements yet. But I am building up the library of information that I am gathering ready for that day #AllOurHealth

@WeLearnOutLoud I haven’t had the opportunity to share any information with patients or their families yet however I have shared to social media, family and friends who along with myself are shocked about how much air pollution can effect us and our health #AllOurHealth
@XLozzyJX
04 March 2021 19:34
@WeLearnOutLoud I haven’t had chance to apply this to practice but when I do I would show them some infographics and show them what the air pollution is doing to the world and our health. #AllOurHealth
@KieslerVictoria
04 March 2021 19:34
@WeLearnOutLoud I haven’t been out in practice as yet, however I intend to make others aware of the health effects associated with air pollution, especially with those consider vulnerable #allourhealth
@Deborah21172841
04 March 2021 19:34
@jen_student @WeLearnOutLoud I was also really interested in the air pollution map and forecast. I would perhaps share this with my patients, as it shows how air quality fluctuates according to areas and times of the year. #AllOurHealth
@Heather26138850
04 March 2021 19:34
@WeLearnOutLoud when given the opportinity I would share the map with the pollution forecast information for the local area and advise them whtat to do when the area has high levels #AllOurHealth
@WeLearnOutLoud
04 March 2021 19:35

QUESTION 2 What are the barriers to sharing information about air pollution with patients and families? #AllOurHealth University of Hull Group C https://t.co/clQCWXQNb9
@stn_seg
04 March 2021 19:40
@vickile47947769 @ZoeLianne1 @WeLearnOutLoud That seems a common theme among answers! Definitely more awareness needed #AllOurHealth
@stn_seg
04 March 2021 19:40
@WeLearnOutLoud I think one of the biggest barriers to sharing information is probably time, and the (incorrect) perception that air pollution isn’t an issue here in the UK which may make people a little complacent and dismissive #AllOurHealth
@dream_withalice
04 March 2021 19:41
@WeLearnOutLoud That it may panic some patients and some patients might not want to be educated on it! #AllOurHealth
@ZoeLianne1
04 March 2021 19:41
@vickile47947769 @stn_seg @WeLearnOutLoud Absolutely, before this module, I never thought about it or the effects. however, now I can honestly say I found the information eye-opening and have told anyone and everyone who will listen all about it. #AllOurHealth
@stn_seg
04 March 2021 19:41
@WeLearnOutLoud It’s important when having discussions to remember that many people don’t have access to open green spaces & living conditions that are beneficial to minimising risks, which makes it so important to tailor the information shared so it is realistic for the individual #AllOurHealth
@Deborah21172841
04 March 2021 19:42
@WeLearnOutLoud I think due to air pollution being invisible, it could take a bit of convincing that air pollution in the home is a real health risk. #AllOurHealth
@stn_seg
04 March 2021 19:43
@Deborah21172841 @WeLearnOutLoud This is a great point! It’s an invisible risk #AllOurHealth
@jen_student
04 March 2021 19:43
@WeLearnOutLoud I think the biggest barrier is probably the perception that air pollution isn't a big problem. There isn't really much information about the effects on our health. Especially indoor air pollution, It isn't something I had considered before this module! #AllOurHealth
@Heather26138850
04 March 2021 19:43
@WeLearnOutLoud I agree with @stn_seg that they may not understand it fully and become unimportant and dismissive. I also saw it as, what if they went the other way and took it too literall and didn't feel it safe to venture out - even on good days #AllOurHealth
@XLozzyJX
04 March 2021 19:43
@WeLearnOutLoud The barriers to sharing information about air pollution is that some patients and families may not be interested in hearing about it and may disregard the information we give them! Also young children may not understand so communication is key! #AllOurHealth
@KieslerVictoria
04 March 2021 19:43
@Alice_M_music @WeLearnOutLoud I agree, I think some individuals may see air pollution as unavoidable, for instance they may need to use the car to travel to work. #allourhealth
@jen_student
04 March 2021 19:44
@stn_seg @WeLearnOutLoud Totally agree! #AllOurHealth
@j_leiggh
04 March 2021 19:44
@WeLearnOutLoud Some people might not be educated enough to understand or have the knowledge to process and understand what is being said. #AllOurHealth
@stn_seg
04 March 2021 19:44
@jen_student @WeLearnOutLoud Absolutely. I’d never given a second thought to indoor air quality when thinking about air pollution before #AllOurHealth
@Deborah21172841
04 March 2021 19:45
@Alice_M_music @WeLearnOutLoud I was surprised to learn about potential pollution risks in the home, including Radon from rocks. Also, believing fresh country air could be polluted with agricultural pollution. #AllOurHealth
@jen_student
04 March 2021 19:45
@KieslerVictoria @Alice_M_music @WeLearnOutLoud Definitely agree with this! #AllOurHealth
@stn_seg
04 March 2021 19:46
@Heather26138850 @WeLearnOutLoud That’s something I’d never even consider actually but is a great point which I’ve seen first hand during the pandemic... the fear people have can result in them isolating themselves away which has a huge impact on them #AllOurHealth
@jen_student
04 March 2021 19:47
@Deborah21172841 @WeLearnOutLoud Absolutely! There does need to be more education around this. #AllOurHealth
@ZoeLianne1
04 March 2021 19:47
@WeLearnOutLoud Air pollution hasn't in my opinion been widely publicised making it difficult for us to share information about it, because of this peoples idea of air pollution could be that it isn't an issue within the UK which makes it difficult to share information about it. #AllOurHealth
@samanth88021421
04 March 2021 19:47
@WeLearnOutLoud The barriers could be communication to the and from the patient about air pollution and if their surroundings are effected by this. #Allourhealth
@stn_seg
04 March 2021 19:48
@ZoeLianne1 @WeLearnOutLoud Absolutely. There seems to be so little awareness about it #AllOurHealth
@ZoeLianne1
04 March 2021 19:49
@stn_seg @WeLearnOutLoud I agree shan, also the fact it is not as widely published as other issues in the UK can then mean people will be less likely to listen or understand the information we are sharing. #AllOurHealth
@MarieFitzgeral1
04 March 2021 19:49
@WeLearnOutLoud Some people may not understand or realise to open a window when cooking and not comprehend particles are being released inside their home environment #AllOurHealth
@WeLearnOutLoud
04 March 2021 19:50
QUESTION 3 What is the best approach to take when sharing information with patients and families re air pollution? #AllOurHealth University of Hull Group C https://t.co/2NeLBWbTtA
@stn_seg
04 March 2021 19:50
@ZoeLianne1 @WeLearnOutLoud Yes totally - because it isn’t shouted about they may not realise how much of an impact it can actually have and think the health risks are lesser #AllOurHealth
@ZoeLianne1
04 March 2021 19:50
@stn_seg @WeLearnOutLoud I have to say that before the #AllOurHealth modules on air pollution Iaffects knew very little of it and had very little knowledge of how it effects our health.
@stn_seg
04 March 2021 19:51
@WeLearnOutLoud I think by remaining non judgemental & engaging in open discussions about lifestyle. This will allow us to assess risk without appearing too intrusive & offer advice based on that individual. It will also help to raise awareness & help the patient manage their risk #AllOurHealth
@WeLearnOutLoud
04 March 2021 19:51
RT @ZoeLianne1: @stn_seg @WeLearnOutLoud I have to say that before the #AllOurHealth modules on air pollution Iaffects knew very little of…
@Deborah21172841
04 March 2021 19:52
@stn_seg @WeLearnOutLoud @Heather26138850 I wonder how the lockdown has affected people's physical health in connection to air pollution with the lack of fresh outdoor air and exercise. #AllOurHealth
@stn_seg
04 March 2021 19:52
@ZoeLianne1 @WeLearnOutLoud Couldn’t agree more with this. I think if all the modules this has been the one where I’ve seen more “new” information #AllOurHealth
@jen_student
04 March 2021 19:52
@WeLearnOutLoud Be clear about the risks and long term effects. It is probably something that people haven't really thought about, signpost them to appropriate resources. #AllOurHealth
@ZoeLianne1
04 March 2021 19:52
@stn_seg @WeLearnOutLoud Definitely, many people rely on social media, tv and the internet to find out information and quote resources. the fact air pollution is not shouted about on these platforms means many people do not believe there is an impact on their health as a result of it. #AllOurHealth
@Deborah21172841
04 March 2021 19:53
@ZoeLianne1 @WeLearnOutLoud @stn_seg I have also become more educated on this subject and found some air pollution facts quite alarming #AllOurHealth
@ZoeLianne1
04 March 2021 19:54
@stn_seg @WeLearnOutLoud I feel the same, many of the other modules I have had core knowledge on and they have expanded on my knowledge however this module there has been many new facts and lots of new information for me to take in. #AllOurHealth
@jen_student
04 March 2021 19:54
@ZoeLianne1 @stn_seg @WeLearnOutLoud This is a very good point, I really hadn't considered air pollution very much before this weeks resources! #AllOurHealth
@ZoeLianne1
04 March 2021 19:55
@Deborah21172841 @WeLearnOutLoud @stn_seg Definitely agree Debbie. some of the facts have been eye-opening and shocking to find out. #AllOurHealth
@WeLearnOutLoud
04 March 2021 19:55
And finally ... When and where should information re air pollution be shared with patients and their families?? #AllOurHealth University of Hull Group C https://t.co/aX6hNIB4en
@stn_seg
04 March 2021 19:55
@Deborah21172841 @WeLearnOutLoud @Heather26138850 That would be interesting. Anecdotally a family member with asthma has found it easier to manage her condition, particularly during the earlier lockdowns where there was much less traffic #AllOurHealth
@dream_withalice
04 March 2021 19:55
@WeLearnOutLoud To be clear with families and don’t judge anyone if they have a different opinion to you! #AllOurHealth
@samanth88021421
04 March 2021 19:56
@WeLearnOutLoud The best approach is recommendations to the patient and family and given them leaflets and just talking to them how it could effect one other. #Allourhealth
@Heather26138850
04 March 2021 19:56
@WeLearnOutLoud Best way I think is to get the whole family involved, show them the online pollution map so they can keep track. Show them the infographs as they are eye catching. Promote clean air day #AllOurHealth
@stn_seg
04 March 2021 19:56
@Anastacia_SN20 @WeLearnOutLoud Absolutely - avoiding “lecturing” for want of a better word #AllOurHealth
@ZoeLianne1
04 March 2021 19:56
@jen_student @stn_seg @WeLearnOutLoud #AllOurHealth I believe this is a feeling amongst many of us. I feel we have all learnt a wealth of new information and eye-opening facts through the #AllOurHealth Air pollution module.
@Deborah21172841
04 March 2021 19:57
@WeLearnOutLoud Listen to individual needs and try and offer achievable solutions according to the area in which they live. Do not lecture but make suggestions #AllOurHealth
@stn_seg
04 March 2021 19:57
@WeLearnOutLoud Whenever it is necessary to do so - I think it is particularly important to ensure we do this with those most at risk (eg pregnancy, pre-existing respiratory conditions etc). On top of this, posters with info could be used to raise awareness in GPs/pharmacies etc #AllOurHealth
@WeLearnOutLoud
04 March 2021 19:58
@ZoeLianne1 @jen_student @stn_seg that's a huge win then :) #AllOurHealth you all have so much to remember all the time, let's hope at least when air pollution is really relevant to your patient you can chat with confidence to them about it :)
@MarieFitzgeral1
04 March 2021 19:58
@WeLearnOutLoud Definitely use infographs to show families inside and outside pollution and share the sources of air pollution #AllOurHealth https://t.co/Dziuayd1Hk
@samanth88021421
04 March 2021 19:58
@WeLearnOutLoud This should be done in private at the doctors surgery or even their in homes #Allourhealth
@jen_student
04 March 2021 19:59
@WeLearnOutLoud Possibly when the contact is around something like respiratory health or if the patient has any specific concerns about things like housing conditions. #Allourhealth
