A key priority in the vision of the Chief Nursing Officer for England is for all nursing, midwifery and care staff to come together with One Collective Voice. The critical role the professions have played during the Covid-19 pandemic highlights the importance of this now, more than ever.

Nursing, midwifery and care staff as part of their everyday practice are well-placed to identify opportunities for transformational change that will support delivery of better outcomes and experiences of those who use our services. During these challenging times we have seen this, as nurses and midwives continue to drive forwards change and lead innovation; benefiting both those they care for, and work with.

To support this, local accreditation provides us with the tools to undertake a comprehensive assessment of quality of care at ward, unit and team levels. During recent months we have heard from nursing and midwifery colleagues how helpful this has been, bringing together key measures into a single overarching framework, from across nursing and clinical care as relevant to us and to our patients.

What do we mean by local accreditation?

Local accreditation is:

·       the development of a set of standards so that areas for improvement can be identified and areas of excellence celebrated.

Experience shows accreditation programmes can drive continuous improvement in patient outcomes, as well as increase patient satisfaction and staff experience at ward and unit level.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, this collective sense of purpose has been especially important as it supports communication, encourages local ownership and supports teams to achieve a robust programme which measures and influences care delivery.

Join us to hear from organisations who are have implemented an accreditation framework into their practice to support their patients, families and staff during the pandemic and restoration work. They will share their advice, tips and encouragement in how these frameworks support a collective sense of leadership and how during the pandemic this has led to new innovative ways of working across their services and communities. They will also share some of the challenges they have overcome and how working this way has had a positive impact upon the quality of care provided as well as staff satisfaction.

Join in wider discussions by searching, following and adding #teamCNO and/or #1ProfessionalVoice on Twitter.

The newly developing Nursing and Midwifery COVID-19 Catalogue of Change showcases a range of case studies from nurses and midwives working at the point of care across England; sharing experiences, innovations and solutions that illustrate the beneficial changes they have brought about during the pandemic and the ongoing restoration work.
