If you haven't joined in a tweet chat before it's very simple.    Here's a guide

  • What is a journal club?
A journal club helps you increase your confidence, knowledge and improve your practice by discussing selected articles in a non-judgemental setting. The aim is to encourage students to learn more about a subject, listen to what others think and how the literature can be translated into practice- bridging the gap between merely understanding new knowledge and being able to implement best practice.

  • How does it work?
#WeStNs will link to the chosen article two weeks in advance to allow our followers to read the article and make any notes in relation to the questions below. On the advertised time and date, we will host an online discussion, similar to a tweet chat, about the chosen article. It’s as simple as telling us what you think and engaging with others. But remember to follow the NMC Social Media guidance! Don’t forget when you comment, the article’s author(s) may well be on twitter too.

  • What are the benefits?
Discussing articles as a group gives us the chance to talk about how practice can be improved and how it can enhance patient care. It will also help us to critically appraise research and help implement it into practice. We hope to often have research experts on hand to help facilitate discussion, answer questions and share their own thoughts

  • When, where and what?

Date:17th March 2021

Time: 8pm-9pm

Location: @WeStudentNurse

Article:Christensen, M., Aubeeluck, A., Fergusson, D., Craft, J., Knight, J., Wirihana,L. & Stupple, E. (2016) Do student nurses experience Imposter Phenomenon? An international comparison of Final Year Undergraduate Nursing Students readiness for registration. Journal of Advanced Nursing 72( 11),2784– 2793. doi:10.1111/jan.13034

  • Questions for consideration:
  1. What does the research aim to address in the article? Why is this important to address?
  2. Which research design was used to answer the research questions or hypotheses? Was the design appropriate to answer the research questions or hypotheses? Why?
  3. What were the limitations of the study? Were they acknowledged?
  4. What were the conclusions of the study? Were the data that were collected consistent with and sufficient to support the conclusions?
  5. What are the implications of the research for nursing practice, education, administration, and/or research?

  • Background reading
    • It can be hard to know where to start with learning to interpret evidence. The definitive textbook on how to read a paper critically is Trisha Greenhalgh’s HowTo Read a Paper: The Basics of Evidence–based Medicine and Healthcare. You’ll find chapters covering various types of research and handy checklists to help guide your reading. It’s very easy to dip into as needed, so you’ll find it a great companion to the Journal Club over time.

@WeStudentNurse A game-changer. ... If it’s genuinely utilised - it’s not though. We’re creature of habit, alas. Although as Dr Johnson put it antiquity of abuse is no reason for its’ continuance. #WeStNs #WeStNsJC
