#WeNurses - Thursday 27th January 2022 8:30pm (GMT Standard Time) Nursing - then, now and the future

If you haven't joined in a tweet chat before it's very simple.    Here's a guide

 Chat Details

Hosted by WeNurses using #WeNurses

A new year is a good time to reflect and regroup and this tweetchat aims to do just that ... on nursing ! Nursing is pretty tough right now so this is an excellent opportunity for us to think about why we are so passionate about this profession and how we support one another.

This tweetchat will be exploring the following questions:

Pre chat poll:

How may years have you been a nurse for?

Do you feel that the public image of nursing / nurses is a true reflection?

Do you feel the public's perception of nursing has changed since the start of the pandemic?

Tweetchat questions:

  • What / who inspires to to keep nursing?
  • If there is one thing you could change about your job what would it be?
  • If you were designing an advert for nursing what three words would it contain?
  • If a colleague cam to you saying they had 'had enough' how would you support them?

Post chat poll:

Do you know where to access support if you or a colleague need it?

What makes you go back to nursing after a bad day?

@lapierre_daisy I have been nursing for 26 years and I still love it. I always wanted to be a nurse from a young age. So I did my training and never looked back. It is a privilege to care for patients. #WeNurses

@WeNurses Not to short change #WeNurses: (I) the system around the role being more logically and informed (especially policy, processes, and procedures that should scaffolds practice). (II) the ability as a band 5 to make the small sort of service improvements that would make work easier.

@WeNurses I can think of a few off the top of my head: Safety critical profession. Knowledge intensive role. And bending the criteria slightly: Science (and values) informed practice. (etc.) And being cheeky: We aren’t mini-medics. … nursing might surprise, #WeNurses! ??

@WeNurses I'd ask if they wanted to talk about it. I'd take them for tea or a drink or something after work &see if they would talk more. I'd listen. I wouldn't offer any solutions, just let them talk and be empathetic. That's where I'd start. Then I'd see where it needed to go. #WeNurses

@AgencyNurse Yes, that would be most helpful and I wish that was documented better in the news and also the hospital system. My own work places constantly tells us that we have 'no beds' for our elective surgical cases when most often its down to not enough nurse. #WeNurses
