The RCM BetterBirth’s campaign encourages women to adopt different positions for labour and birth, stating gravity can aid women to birth their babies while reducing intervention and complications (RCM 2015), and has highlighted the importance of the ambience of a room, and the feeling that the woman is in control (Lock andGibb, 2003). The careenvironment and active positions for labour and birth are linked with reduced use of pain relief (Hodnett et al., 2009)
The RCM’s better Births website has many resources, including a poster with pictures on showing different positions that a woman may adopt during labour. Some of these pictures include the woman wearing CTG belts. Which prompted my question: how easy is it for women to adopt active birth positions with continuous fetal monitoring?
