#PatientStories - Thursday 10th March 2022 8:30pm (GMT Standard Time) Your Patients' Stories

If you haven't joined in a tweet chat before it's very simple.    Here's a guide

f

Hosted by WeNurses using #PatientStories

This is the first of two tweetchats with @HOPEnetworkNHS on Patient Stories as part of the "Story Telling Festival" with opportunities to learn more about why and how to create real value from patient stories, see and register for an amazing lineup of online events here.

.........................................................

We all have an experience with a patient that defines our approach to delivering our care, in fact, we likely all have quite a few that shape our ethical, clinical, and learning journey throughout our nursing career. We likely all have that one patient story that we regale peers or friends and family that define us as a nurse.

Patients' stories and experiences have the power to stop us in our tracks and our patients' feedback is part of our NMC revalidation, so there is no doubt they are valued and are an important part of delivering care.

We talk about "putting the patient at the center of all we do" and we regularly hear terms like "patient-centric care" yet we don't seem to see the impact of our care on patients through their eyes, or words very often presented as formal learning opportunities, individually or as a service.

This chat, as part of the patient stories festival, aims to explore how we move from taking many, many powerful patient stories from delivering anecdotal or personal impact on us as individuals to delivering value to a wider audience, possibly into service design and delivery.

We'll be asking the following questions during this tweetchat to guide us through the chat:

  • Why do you feel #patientstories are so important to delivering care?
  • Why do you think #patientstories evoke such strong reactions?
  • Are there types of #patientstories that we tend to see more than others?
  • What type of #patientstories do you think are the most valuable to share?
  • Do you think #patientstories help you maintain lessons learned to improve practice?

Following this introductory chat on #patientstories we have another tweetchat planned that looks at how we can support patient stories within organisations to deliver more value by looking at the when, where and how of patient stories 17th March at 20:30 .

They're memorable. You remember the person and what happened to them. You can empathise with them. It's not "a bit of feedback". Stories have details that help us understand how care felt #patientstories
