#WeNurseAcademics - Tuesday 17th May 2022 8pm (GMT Standard Time) Starting as a Nursing Academic... #wenurseacademics

If you haven't joined in a tweet chat before it's very simple.    Here's a guide

 Chat Details

Hosted by WeNurses using #WeNurseAcademics

Moving over to higher education from clinical practice is a big challenge. We have all been there!

Student cohorts are increasing in size to meet the workforce demand and naturally, this means the sector is recruiting more new nursing academics to help deliver education programmes.

Recruitment and Attrition is key to ensuring we can deliver high-quality nursing education with a well-supported and thriving workforce. The support offered across HEI’s will be very different for new nursing academia’s and we can all learn and share experiences and practices.

At times recruitment can be hard, it isn’t always a career progression that is thought of in clinical practice. There is more that can be done to enhance workforce planning.

During this tweetchat we'll be working through the following questions:

  • What attracted you to the role and how have you or did you find the move?
  • What support do you have in place for new academics joining your institutions?
  • How can we enhance recruitment into the nursing academic role?
  • What tips do you have for someone starting out as a new nursing academic or thinking about making the transition from clinical practice?

With thanks to @Helenski17 for composing this #WeNurseAcademins chat.

@clarahopscotch @WeNurses I wear a "Winging It" badge on my lanyard! I'm not sure that feeling subsides. Finding a mentor you trust to give you constructive feedback is important and will support you to realise you belong #WeNurseAcademics

@thesismum @chris_dlamini @WeNurses But, to be honest, that's what I hear at work, when I start to tell my non-academic colleagues what I would like to do in the future. Which is the reason for a lot of my fellow students to work later "just" as a non-academic nurse. #WeNurseAcademics

@thesismum @chris_dlamini @WeNurses It seems to be the typical " we've always done it this way" thought #WeNurseAcademics
